The S8's cameras were great but the Galaxy S9+ takes it even further with the variable aperture lens and multiframe shooting along with software refinements!

The main cameras are a dual lens set up of 12MP (f/1.5 / f/2.4) + 12 MP f/2.4 telephoto lens w/ Dual Pixel, Dual OIS, multi-frame, and dual tone LED flash while the selfie camera is a 8 MP f/1.7 w/ AF, wide angle lens, and screen flash.

The app has significantly been upgraded with new modes like food, panorama, pro, Live Focus, Auto, super slow-mo, AR Emoji, hyperlapse, slow motion, and sports for the main camera.
For the selfie camera modes there are the selfie focus, selfie, AR Emoji and wide Selfie and each one is absolutely far from what we experienced with the Note 8 and the S8 or S8+.
So there is an abundant of options. What we really liked is the improved PRO mode with options to set ISO from 50 to 800, Shutter speed from 1/24000th to 10 seconds, focus, WB, metering, and autofocus areas.

In our initial shots, it is immediately apparent how far the improvements are from the Note 8, S8, and S8+!
The signature saturated colors that pop is back but the details are more visible because the noise has been greatly controlled. In fact, there is a huge reduction in grain that they were visible only when zooming in unlike our experience with the Galaxy Note 8 where the grain was apparent right away when using the 2.0x zoom and when shooting in low light.
In fact, the lowlight images of the main camera is one of the best we've seen. The daylight images are stellar with great contrast and highly detailed.
It is so good that it overshadows the good performance of the selfie camera. Yes, the selfie images are sharp with good contrast and saturated colors but it wasn't a huge leap from the S8 or S8+'s selfie camera unlike the main camera of the S9 or S9+ to the S8 or S8+.
