Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Unboxing and First Impressions
Flare S6 unboxing and first impressions |
Like what we mentioned previously, the Flare S6 is the only handset right now that has USB Type-C port and of the very few w/ a real fingerprint scanner in its class. Moreover, it has the fast 700MHz LTE connectivity on top of its capable overall specs for the price.

Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Specs
Disclaimer: This is a seeded unit from Cherry Mobile for our honest review.
Unboxing / Accessories
Everything inside |
What's inside the box are the basics. It has the 1.2A USB wall charger, USB Type-C cable (very rare find at this price), basic earbuds w/ microphone, and the paper documentations.
It has no free case and screen protector. But, this is a budget phone, I'm not complaining.
Build Quality / Design
Beautiful design, nice build |
For the price, this type of build is quite good. The Flare S6's backplate is made out of plastic, but has a more premium type of metallic finish. Frame is also plastic, but again, it feels durable enough. In front, it has a 2.5D glass curved screen w/ no mention of glass protection.
Dual SIM, dedicated microSD card slot, the red circle in the middle is the fingerprint scanner |
Putting a case and screen protector would still be the best to ensure that your phone will last.
3.5 mm headphone jack slot on top |
Mic, micro USB port, speaker |
Power button, volume rocker at right |
Design is truly beautiful for the price. We like the textures, paint finish, and its curves all over. Even the has nice 2.5D curved glass.
Beauty w/ a purpose!
The side bezels are slim and the phone is far from thick at 8.8 mm. Fingerprint scanner placement is nice too. There's just a slight camera hump behind, but its totally acceptable at this price point.
Size of the phone is just right! The 5.2-inch screen is not too small and not too big. It sits well in my average sized hands as well. Surprisingly, the Flare S6 is far from slippery to hold too.
All ports and buttons are on standard and easy to reach placements.
Initial Findings
1. This phone is beautiful for the price. Build is decent too! Size is just right. We like that it has bigger than your usual 5-inch display w/ the use of a 5.2-inch panel. The screen is HD in resolution.2. The phone boasts MediaTek's 64-bit MT6737 quad-core processor w/ Mali-T720 GPU. This chipset is normally found on phones w/ over PHP 5K price tag. In addition, Cherry paired it w/ 2GB RAM for basic multitasking. Expandable storage is just at 16GB though. Battery performance is surprisingly good so far too. Not bad!
3. Currently, this is the most affordable Cherry phone w/ Nougat based Cherry OS. It is far from perfect, but its so much better than their stock skin w/ pop-up ads before. We also like that it has built-in apps for optimizations and the camera app is feature-rich.
4. Speaking of the cameras, this handset boasts a 13MP Sony IMX135 f/2.0 w/ BSI, AF, and LED flash behind and a 13MP OV12830 f/2.0 w/ LED flash in front. So far, so good for the price.
5. Capacitive keys aren't lit, but it has LED notifications, 700MHz LTE, fingerprint scanner, OTG, and USB Type-C. Yes, you read that part right, this sub PHP 4K phone has USB Type-C port.

As of the moment
I'm impressed! This is probably the best sub PHP 4K smartphone in the market right now. Screen size is big enough, performance is quite snappy for light usage, battery life is decent, and cameras are good so far. We also liked that it is feature-rich!For our review: Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Review - Low-cost wonder!
