Build Quality / Design
2.5D glass behind! |
Kata stepped it up in terms of materials used. The Kata M4 boasts a solid metal frame with chamfered edges. It also has a Galaxy S8-like curved glass material behind. All of the metal buttons feels premium as well. On top, there's a beautiful 2.5D curved glass.
Easily, this is the most premium Kata smartphone yet.
There's no mention of Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail glass for protection, but based on our accidental table high drop test, the glass behind proved to be sturdy enough.
3.5 mm headphone jack slot on top |
Microphone, USB Type C slot, and speaker grill below |
Hybrid slot at left |
Power button and volume rocker located at right |
Design-wise, the handset reminds us of the OPPO F3 in front and the Galaxy S8 series curved glass behind!
The handset also has all the standard placement of ports and buttons found on a 5.5 inch device. The power button and volume rocker is at right, eject-able hybrid dual SIM tray at left, 3.5 mm jack on top, and USB Type C / mic / speakers below.
As a whole, this is a very well made phone and it generally feels great to hold. Surprisingly, it isn't slippery as well.
Initial findings
1. The design is GREAT. The best of Kata yet. Build feels also very sturdy. The HD screen is also forgivable as it is equipped with a saturted AMOLED panel. Light sensor is a bit erratic though.2. Specs is fine for the expected price. It even has 32 GB of expandable storage and LARGE 4,350 mAh of battery. Let's see.
3. This is one of the few phones to boot Android 7.0 Nougat OS. However, the UI is still not mature. Users can customize it to their preference though.
4. Behind, there's an 18 MP f/2.0 main camera with very quick auto focus and can produce decent shots. In front, it has an 8 MP f/2.0 lens, but it has no AF and LED flash.
5. This handset also has USB Type C port, physical Android keys with light, and gyroscope sensor. The fingerprint scanner is also highly accurate and even has swipe gestures. However, there's no LED light indicator.
